Activities: grammar, vocabulary and culture activities + quizzes Note: The activities may take some time to download - please be patient! Windows: After downloading, double-click the file and then click "Run". A shortcut named "Passport 2" will appear on your desktop. Double-click it to open the activities. Internet-based Activities
Unit 2: Different Places Activity: Read the recipe and cultural information on Chicken Tikka Masala. What kind of dish is it? What kind of ingredients do you use to prepare it? Is it important nowadays in the UK? Once you have described the dish, compare it to your favourite local dish.
Unit 3: Looking Good Activity: Imagine you are a British student and you have to buy next year's school clothes. Choose the category 'Boys' or 'Girls', and then choose two complete uniforms (shirt, trousers, skirt, sweater, etc.), one for cold weather and one for hot weather. How much money does it cost? Explain why you chose each item.
Unit 4: New Ideas Activity: Choose one category from Science, Culture, Religion and Politics, and then choose a famous character from the past. Look for information and write a very short biography, stating names, profession, years lived, important facts of his/her life, etc. Finally, explain why you chose this character and why you think he/she is historically important.
Unit 5: Making Contact! Activity: Choose two newspapers from the list and compare the same main news story. Which one has the clearest information? Which one is more attractive? Do you think they are "serious" or "informal" newspapers? Explain your choices.
Unit 6: Solve the Crime Activity: Look for the J.K. Rowling's Biography section. Read the first four chapters, where she refers to her school years, and write about her experiences. Was her childhood very different from yours? Provide examples that confirm your ideas.
Unit 7: Song and Dance Activity: What is the Notting Hill Carnival? Explain what type of celebration it is, when and where it takes place, and explain whether you have ever been to a carnival parade before. Choose three pictures and describe the situations. What are the characters doing? How are they dressed? Are they having fun? Would you like to be there?
Unit 9: Being Green Activity: Choose three aspects of the article 'The Disappearing Rainforest' about the effects of deforestation and explain what a student like you can do to remedy this situation.
