Activities: grammar, vocabulary and culture activities + quizzes Note: The activities may take some time to download - please be patient! Windows: After downloading, double-click the file and then click "Run". A shortcut named "Passport 4" will appear on your desktop. Double-click it to open the activities. Linux: After downloading, right-click the file and select "Open with 'Wine Program Loader'". Two icons will appear on your desktop. You can trash the "lnk" icon. Internet-based Activities
Unit 1: Let’s Connect Activity: Read the sections 'How PCs work' and 'PC Connections' and then explain what the main parts of a computer are. Explain how you use computers, either at home or at school.
Unit 4: Looking Ahead Activity: Go to the 'New Year’s Eve' section, then click on 'History of New Year's Eve in Times Square'. Write a short history of the celebration. Use help from the Interactive Timeline.
Unit 5: Think About It Activity: What is Op Art? What is its function? Select three examples of Op Art by three different artists and try to explain what they tried to do, which materials they used, and finally say which is your favourite and why.
Unit 6: Smart Shopping Activity: Go to the 'Kinds of shops' section and select five different types of shops. Explain what they sell, where they sell it, what kind of employees work there, and finally say whether this kind of shop also exists in your town. Do you go there often? What kind of shoppers go there?
Unit 7: Today’s English Activity: Read the list of reasons why it is useful to learn English. Make two lists depending on whether you agree or not with the reasons for learning English in the sections Knowledge, Communication, Culture and Work. Why did you start learning English? How old were you? Have you ever met any English-speaking people? Could you communicate with them? What do you want to accomplish by learning English?
Unit 9: Behind the Scenes Activity: Select one of the 15 chapters about the invention of cinema. Read all the information about that time and decide which invention was the most important for the development of cinema. Then, explain how you imagine a film premiere 100 years ago compared to a film premiere of today.
