Procedure

Ask the students the following questions:

  • When and where the last summer Olympic Games were held?
  • When and where will the next winter Olympic Games be held?
  • Which sports do they like to watch during the Olympics?
  • Are there any students in the class who don't watch the Olympics? Why?
  • Does anyone know who won the most medals in any one summer Olympics?
  • Does anyone know how many countries participated in the Olympics one hundred years ago and how many participate today?

Give the students the activity Olympic Triva Quiz Tell them that this is a friendly competition. Give them 15-20 minutes to find all the answers to the questions. They will be using the Internet site History - Olympics 2000 at http://www.sportsline.com/u/Olympics/2000/history/

Prepare a card-based trivia game using additional information from the Internet site.

Prepare a new 'Olympic Winner' game with additional information presented on the Internet site.
